Humble Shepherds Pie


Pie Mix

  • 1kg WM Meats Premium Beef Mince
  • 1 x celery finely chopped
  • 1 x carrot grated
  • 1 x onion finely chopped
  • 2 x garlic finely chopped
  • 3 x rosemary springs finely chopped
  • 2 x tablespoons tomato paste
  • 250ml beef stock
  • 1 x 400g can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 x tablespoons corn flour
  • 2 tablespoons water

Potato Mash

  • 5 large potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 150g butter
  • 50ml cream
  • 4 sprigs thyme
  • Salt and pepper, pinch
  • ½ cup grated cheese


  1. Pre Heat oven to 190’c
  2. Place potatoes on stove to boil
  3. Sauté celery, carrot, onion, garlic and rosemary in a heated pan with oil
  4. Add mince meat and cook until golden brown
  5. Stir in beef stock, tomato paste and crushed tomatoes, bring to boil before simmering to reduce
  6. Add peas
  7. Combine water and cornflour to make a paste before adding to the pan to thicken the sauce
  8. Place pie mix in a baking dish and set aside
  9. Drain and mash boiled potatoes
  10. In a saucepan combine butter, cream, thyme and salt and pepper. Bring to heat before combining with mash potatoes
  11. Spread mash potato over pie mix in baking dish and top with grated cheese
  12. Place into over for 5 – 10 mins or until golden brown
